    Random thoughts

  • First off, I was genuinely sad to hear of Freddy Fender's recent passing. Interviewed him about 15 years ago, just when the first Texas Tornados album came out. He was one of the nicest, most unassuming artists I've ever had the pleasure of talking to ... even throughout a tornado warning in his former Missouri home. R.I.P., Freddy.

  • Another day, another rapper shot - this time, Fabolous. These guys must have the highest insurance premiums in the entire music industry. (If they have insurance at all.)

    A milestone for the Vault of Fame

    Better late than never, especially when it comes to one of my favorite P&P pages: the Vault of Fame. I try to add new songs and albums to the list at least once a month; September was particularly busy, so the Vault took a back seat.

    Then I go to update it today and, lo and behold, "Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On" becomes the 500th song.

    500?! Dang, that's a lot.

    I'm not even sure exactly when I started the Vault; I suspect it was in '97, just a few months before P&P became an official Web site. Before that, P&P was distributed via CompuServe and AOL.

    Why is the album list only up to 325? The song list got a few years headstart.
